2019 TISP Week

TISP stands for the ‘Teacher In-Service Program’ and is a professional development program aimed at helping teachers bring exciting hands-on engineering lessons into their classrooms. IEEE volunteers are trained to conduct TISP workshops. These trained volunteers – known as TISP Champions – then take the program to their local areas and train school teachers.

IEEE TISP program gives the opportunity to teachers to adopt new ways of teaching, and make their students active again in the class. Moreover, TISP lessons make students work together by themselves and the teacher, while this makes them develop soft-skills such as teamwork – work under pressure and time management.

TISP workshops are more than just a training event. Is an opportunity for both teachers and students to explore different ways of educational activities which can be implemented in the class, while at the same time are fun and in the end, a demo product has been created.

IEEE TISP gives a great opportunity for students to think of new ways in order to give a solution to a real presented problem, by actually creating something in the end, while using everyday materials.

The aim of this event is the school teachers to eventually implement these lesson plans in their classrooms on a regular basis, working together with the local IEEE volunteers.

TISP Week 

In the past last three years, over 2,000 teachers have been trained in 30 IEEE Sections in IEEE Region 8 and Region 10 during the TISP week. We are pleased to announce that organization of TISP Week will be continued in 2019.

It is a great pleasure to announce that Region 8, Region 9 and Region 10 are joining forces to organize a significant educational event spreading across 5 continents: Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia/Oceania.

The Teacher In-Service Program (TISP) enables IEEE volunteers to share their technical expertise and demonstrate the application of engineering concepts to support the teaching and learning of science, mathematics, and technology disciplines. IEEE offers training workshops for its members on how to facilitate in-service programs for local teachers in order to help them with hands-on engineering lessons to their students. These lesson plans are aligned with education standards and they can easily be used in the classroom.

The TISP week is a program to facilitate the conduct of teacher training workshops in multiple Sections in the Region 8, Region 9 and Region 10 within the last week of October 2019. (In order to accommodate local schedule or requirements and subject to approval by the Regional Educational Activities Co-ordinator, some workshops may also be held outside the TISP week dates. These workshops will still be considered as part of the TISP week program.)

This will showcase the incredible work being done by our education activities volunteers throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and Australia/Oceania. The objective is to train teachers to deliver Inquiry Based Science Education sessions and help the training of volunteers in the local sections. The workshops also help the local volunteers in delivering public services.

Guidelines
